1973 Mercury Cougar Scale Model Car
I painted the model body a gloss white using several mostly light coats. I am going to have to wait until the paint is completely dry until I can wet sand which means to sand with sandpaper and a little water on the surface. There is an area on the hood, where a scoop can be added that is thin. This area is removed if the scoop is added and where it is supposed to be cut out is very thin leaving a low area on the top of the hood where the border is. (The recess is on the bottom of the hood where it is supposed to be removed.) I will have to wait until the paint completely dries to wet sand this area. I had wet sanded this area before painting the body white today, but apparently it wasn't enough, which is a concern of mine. During painting I could see that wet sanding didn't work, therefore, I sprayed more light coats on the hood to make the paint thicker which would wet sand better in that I wouldn't sand through to the bare plastic which would leave plastic and painted areas. These areas might not wet sand smoothly because of the different materials (paint and plastic). One would, I assume, sand less than the other leaving a mark where the two surfaces meet on the hood which would show up in the white painted surface. I will be patient.
