1973 Mercury Cougar Scale Model Car

Almost Finished ModelDay 20 -
September 8, 2007

Just about all day today I worked on the model, assembling it to almost completion.

Some of the steps are (basically in this order):

1. I finished painting the front bumper, headlight and grille chrome plated piece. I added a simulated rubber strip along the front bumper using flat black paint, used flat black paint on the grille and around the headlights, painted the turn signals an amber color and painted the emblem red.

Almost Finished Model2. I put a light coat of polish on the model body and then detailed it with chrome foil which has an adhesive on one side. I painted areas such as door lock keyholes and the Cougar script emblems on the vehicle body. I also painted the areas where the bumpers were attached to the sprues which covered the areas where there was no chrome plating. After completely dry, I decided to cover some of these areas with the chrome foil instead.

3. I assembled the interior, gluing the steering wheel in turned as the front wheels will be turned to the right. The rear bumper was also glued in place.

Almost Finished Model4. I glued the front wheels on turned. I also installed the windshield and rear window piece. Then, I glued the interior into the body. At about this time, I carefully glued on the rear wheels.

5. Now, I was ready to glue in the chassis, as the model was almost complete. After test fitting the chassis, I carefully glued it into place and also the front bumper, headlight and grille piece.

I still have to do some detailing such as painting the hubcap emblems blue and minor touch up with silver paint, though. There is at least one small smudge (of silver paint), on the white paint which can be removed with polish, I believe.
